Hello! I’m Kelsey Horsnell, the creator and owner of KJH Creative. I was born on Vancouver Island and raised in small town northern British Columbia. Since a young age I always knew I wanted to be some sort of designer. I have always been a creative person, and always go through different phases where I’m obsessed with different creative hobbies. For awhile when I was younger I was convinced that I wanted to be an architect and filled up binders full of house plans, which lead me to my love for Interior Design. It wasn’t until I was 16 years old and started looking at university programs that I discovered Graphic Design. That was almost 8 years ago, and now I have graduated from Vancouver Island University with a Bachelor of Design Degree!
I’m still crazy about crafts and am always looking for new ways to express my creativity. Many school projects over the past few years have lead me to be more creative and explore new mediums. I have acquired many new skills and hobbies such as water colour painting, crochet, brush calligraphy and hand lettering, pyrography and a few other things. There’s nothing I enjoy more than working with my hands and creating something that will brighten someones day.
In my lifetime I have called 5 different towns home and have also been lucky enough to have travelled to a couple different parts of the world including France, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Australia, and Fiji, as well as parts of the United States, and Mexico. I’ve met a lot of pretty cool people along the way and I have no doubt that many of my projects have been inspired by these experiences.
My life has changed a lot since finishing school in April. I have moved to Prince George, and in June got engaged to my man of 7 years. Life has been a whirlwind of graduating university, moving to and renovating our new place, working on making KJH Creative a legitimate business and now wedding planning!
Now that the student chapter of my life has come to a close, I am looking forward to the future! I decided on naming my brand KJH Creative in the beginning of my last year of my degree. I kept my initials (my middle name is Jade) and decided to use the term ‘creative’ because I felt that it doesn’t limit the possibilities of what I can create and what the future will hold for me and my business. Besides graphic design work, I have been experimenting with watercolour and wood burning projects. I love creating custom pieces for gifts and playing with new ideas.
